Playa Guiones is a sand-bottom point break that works year-round. Beginners stand up on day one. Intermediate surfers stretch into bigger faces. Through our sister company Monkey Head Adventures, we run a pair of well-appointed vessels out of Garza harbor. Half-day sportfishing for mahi, tuna, and rooster fish. Snorkel runs to Isla Rosada, where the water turns a color you do not see anywhere else. Sunset cruises with cold cervezas and dolphins on the way home. Whale-watching in season. Transport
Nosara is remote on purpose. We make getting here, and getting around, simple.
Airport transfers from San Jose (SJO) or Liberia (LIR) in late-model SUVs with bilingual drivers. 4x4 rentals waiting at your villa on arrival, fueled and ready. Domestic flights via SANSA into the Nosara airstrip if you want to skip the road. Private drivers for full-day excursions, golf cart rentals for inside the beach town, and a 24/7 dispatch number in case anything goes sideways.

Common questions
What guests actually ask
How far in advance should I book?
For the busy season (December through April) we recommend three to six months out, especially for larger villas and holiday weeks. For shoulder season we can often pull together a great trip on four to eight weeks of notice. Last-minute is possible. Message us and we will tell you honestly what is doable.
What does the full Avela Experience include?
Villa selection and booking, private chef matching and scheduling, daily activities (surf, ocean, jungle, wellness), restaurant reservations, ground transport from the airport, 4x4 rentals if you want them, and a real person on the phone or WhatsApp whenever something comes up. We do not charge per service. The Experience is bundled.
How are airport transfers handled?
We coordinate transfers from both Liberia (LIR) and San Jose (SJO). For groups flying into Liberia, we often book the Sansa domestic flight from Liberia into the Nosara airstrip. Thirty minutes in the air instead of five hours in the car. We meet you at the airstrip with a driver and the vehicles already at your villa.
Can my kids surf? What ages do you teach?
Playa Guiones is one of the best beginner waves on the planet. We have coached kids as young as six who were standing up on the first day. We split families across two instructors so beginners get gentle whitewater while parents catch real waves down the beach.
What if the weather changes our plans?
We monitor swell, tide, and weather windows daily and reshuffle the schedule as needed. If a boat day is rained out we flip it to a chef-and-spa day and run the boat 48 hours later. You will never be standing at a dock wondering what is happening.
How does pricing work?
Villas are priced nightly and seasonally. We send a quote with the rate, taxes, and any holiday surcharges itemized. Services (chef, surf, boat, etc.) are quoted separately so you only pay for what you use. Tell us your dates, group, and what you are interested in. We reply within 24 hours, and the tailored proposal follows a short call.
Do you cater to dietary restrictions or allergies?
Yes. Every chef on our roster handles gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, kid-friendly, and serious allergies (nuts, shellfish). Tell us in your inquiry and we match the right chef to your table.
